My models show where vulnerable people are likely to be by using population data that has a spatial and temporal reference. This means that I know that a particular sort of population will be in a particular place at a particular time!
If you’re interested in population data and want to try looking at your own neighbourhood, check out the office of national statistics site – It’s really easy to use and interesting:
Some parts of a population, or demographics, are more vulnerable than others, such as children, the elderly and women, and my model can identify these vulnerable subgroups.
I also use predictive modelling with individual agents to anticipate where my emergency services and populations might go. You can have a go at this too, using Netlogo.
